Canarywood Flute — Key of G, 440 Hz
A powerful flute with a voice as smooth as polished glass.
Canarywood is one of those woods that grabs your attention before you even hear it. The grain can move through golden yellow, reddish-brown, and purple tones, often with darker streaks running through it. This particular piece has a beautiful warmth and depth to its color and grain.
But what really makes this flute special is its voice.
The sound is smooth as polished glass, with clear, pronounced projection. It has a strong, focused voice and plenty of presence when you want to really let it sing.
I've paired the Canarywood body with Padauk and Purple Heart for the mouthpiece and footcap, with a Canarywood and Purple Heart block accented with Turquoise. The combination gives the flute a rich visual character while allowing the beautiful Canarywood grain to remain the star.
This flute is tuned to G at 440 Hz, the standard concert pitch. That makes it a particularly good choice if you want to play your flute alongside other instruments, such as piano, guitar, or other instruments tuned to standard concert pitch.
While many of my flutes are tuned to 432 Hz as a deliberate choice for personal, meditative, and solo playing, I wanted this flute to have a place in a more traditional musical setting as well. If you want to explore playing with other musicians, 440 Hz gives you that flexibility.
The Canarywood gives this flute a clear, confident voice, and I think the combination of its tone, projection, and visual character makes it a particularly expressive instrument.
