Reclaimed Ponderosa Pine Flute — Key of F, 432 Hz

A striking flute with an aged appearance and a balanced, expressive voice.

This flute was made from reclaimed Ponderosa Pine, with old nail holes filled and sealed with Turquoise inlay. Unlike the other flutes in this series, this piece has been given a steel wool and vinegar treatment, a simple, environmentally friendly process that creates an aged grey appearance in the wood.

The result is striking. The Pine takes on soft grey tones, while the Black Walnut of the mouthpiece, footcap, and block is almost entirely black, with some of its natural brown showing through. Combined with the Turquoise, the contrast gives this flute a distinctive character that sets it apart from the natural Pine of the other flutes in this series.

The appearance may be aged, but the voice is anything but tired. This flute has a balanced tone with good projection, making it responsive and expressive without being overpowering.

Tuned to F at 432 Hz, this is a beautiful flute for quiet exploration, personal playing, and allowing melodies to unfold naturally.

A note about the tuning: This design allows you to slide the block slightly back from the fipple, raising the pitch so the flute can be played at 440 Hz as well. Although this flute is built and voiced around 432 Hz, you have the flexibility to play at either tuning depending on what you're playing with.
